Bio
I believe we are all innately creative beings. Whether we are actively creating art or haven’t picked up a paintbrush in years, all of us carry a spark of creativity within us that can be ignited anytime. The first time I took a ceramics class in college, I recognized that being creative not only made me feel more present and grounded, but it also shifted me into my right brain, increasing my clarity, insight, and problem-solving abilities. The therapeutic benefits of doing art led me to pursue my Master’s Degree in Art Therapy.
I am a credentialed Art Therapist with the Art Therapy Credentials’ Board and received my Masters’ Degree in Art Therapy and Counseling from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2013. In graduate school, I interned in a variety of settings, including a residential treatment center for teens, a domestic violence shelter, and an elementary school. I have experience working with a wide variety of populations but am specifically drawn to working with children and adolescents. I am passionate about serving the younger population and I love witnessing how they find such sanctuary and self-expression through the creative process.
As an Art Therapist, I emphasize the creative process over the final art product. I combine traditional CBT and DBT techniques into art therapy sessions. I am a true believer in the healing power of creativity and I love creating safe and non-judgmental space for clients to engage in their own creative process. I believe that creativity has the capacity to elicit subconscious material and bring it to the surface of our awareness, allowing for deep healing and catharsis to occur.
As a registered yoga teacher, I am also a deep believer in the power of mindfulness and the somatic wisdom of the body. My own personal journey of growth has led me to explore and harness the healing power of yoga, meditation, the creative arts, and energy work in a myriad of ways that I am passionate about offering in the community. I am humbled and honored to do this work, and I would love to be a part of you and your family’s journey.
