Group Facilitator(s): Julia Merk, LISW

What to Expect

Motherhood can be meaningful, beautiful, exhausting, disorienting, and everything in-between—sometimes all in the same day. This therapist-led group is a supportive space for honest conversation, real connection, and practical tools for the realities of motherhood. You can expect a balance of open sharing and gentle structure, with weekly topics that reflect what moms are actually navigating: stress, burnout, mental load, identity shifts, guilt, resentment, relationship dynamics, and the pressure to “do it all” without needing anything.

Each session includes time for check-ins, guided discussion, and clinically grounded education and skills you can apply right away. We’ll cover strategies for emotional regulation, reducing overwhelm, coping with burnout, and responding to stress in ways that support your nervous system and daily functioning. We’ll also build communication skills to help you name needs clearly, set boundaries without spiraling into guilt, and initiate realistic conversations about support and equity at home. We’ll address parenting challenges with a focus on practical, compassionate approaches rather than perfectionism.

This is an affirming, judgment-free environment where you don’t have to perform or pretend. You do not need to be “in crisis” to attend—this group is for moms who want support, insight, and skills, alongside the relief that comes from being understood.

Group Goals

Participants will build connection and belonging with other mothers while gaining insight into the identity shifts that can come with motherhood. The group aims to reduce shame through validation and normalization, strengthen coping skills for stress and burnout, and improve communication and boundary-setting so members can advocate for support and equity at home in ways that feel sustainable and fulfilling.

Life After Loss

A healing space to ride the waves of grief with grounded support and real connection

Start Date: TBD
End Date: TBD
Day/Time: TBD
Cost: Insurance accepted, self-pay rate $40-$65, Slide Fee Accepted
Group Facilitator(s): Laura Petitti

What to Expect

Grief changes everything—your body, your routines, your relationships, your sense of safety, and your identity. This therapist-led group offers a grounded, supportive space to process loss alongside others who “get it,” without pressure to share more than you’re ready for.

Each week includes gentle structure with check-ins, guided discussion, and practical coping tools to help you navigate grief as it shows up in real life—waves of emotion, numbness, anxiety, irritability, difficulty concentrating, sleep disruption, and the sudden triggers that can hit out of nowhere. You’ll learn nervous-system-friendly strategies for grounding, emotional regulation, and getting through hard moments with more steadiness and self-compassion.

This group also makes room for meaning-making and ongoing connection. We’ll explore how grief affects identity and life direction, and how continuing bonds—memory, ritual, values, and legacy—can be honored in ways that feel personal and supportive. Whether your loss is recent or longstanding, you’re welcome here.

Group Goals

Participants will gain support and connection with others experiencing loss while building practical tools for navigating grief day to day. The group focuses on reducing isolation, strengthening grounding and emotional regulation skills, understanding personal grief patterns and triggers, and developing compassionate ways to cope with anniversaries, milestones, and ongoing life transitions—so healing can happen without rushing or “getting over it.

FAQs About Therapy Groups at Stella Luna.

Who can join our groups?
Our groups are designed with our community in mind. You do not have to be a current client to join our groups. Our therapists have the discretion to determine whether someone is a good fit for a therapy group. These decisions are not based solely on your needs, but also take into consideration other group members. If you aren’t deemed a fit for this cohort, we will let you know, but we may not be able to provide specific reasons as to why you may not be able to attend. This is to protect you and other members’ confidentiality.

How many people are in your groups?
Group sizes may range from 3–12+ participants. The max number of group participants is dependent upon the number of available facilitators, as well as the kind of group offered. Facilitators may need to cancel a group with short notice due to a lack of attendance to meet our minimum requirements.

What can I expect during a session?
Group sessions may include a mix of psychoeducation, interactive exercises, and group discussion. You may learn evidence-based strategies ranging from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness practices, as well as EMDR informed strategies—all of our groups are designed intentionally to be trauma informed and support you in managing stress, emotions, and daily life challenges.

How long does the program last?
Some groups may be open, meaning members can join the group on a rolling basis. Other groups may be closed, which means participants need to start at the beginning of a curriculum. Groups meet once or twice per week for 60 minutes. The number of weeks a program runs depends on the groups needs and the curriculum. Process groups may run as ongoing groups without an end date in mind.

          Is this group confidential?
Confidentiality is a cornerstone of group therapy. All participants are expected to respect and protect each other’s privacy, creating a safe and trusting environment. However, Stella Luna cannot guarantee confidentiality due to outside influences. If you or anyone you know is sharing information about a group member, please notify the facilitator immediately.

          How do I join?
To learn more or sign up, please contact our team. We’ll be happy to answer your questions and guide you through the next steps.
